Skye Wright was born a wild child on the Central Coast of California in 1976. Her formative years were spent running barefoot and free on rural ranches which included living next door to the famous Hearst Ranch in San Simeon.
Her parents were both musically and artistically inclined. She grew up listening to the classical piano being played in the house by her father and crafting with her mother who had an obsession for 80’s art supplies including puff paint, glitter, and Sculpy clay.
Encouraged by her mother from a young age to draw, she also took her to college art classes, lectures, and travel films. Skye credits having this early introduction to the fine arts without a formal education that allowed her to freely develop a strong style early on.
Skye is self-taught but was greatly influenced by traveling to museums around the world and studying many masterpieces up close. To this day she continues to take great inspiration through the study of history, global culture, architecture, and the natural world. In 2004 she began working for Daniel’s Woodland located out of her hometown of Paso Robles. There she worked full time as a commercial studio artist. Noted projects were the Fresno Fair Grounds Pirate Ship and a 1/3 scale model of The Black Pearl for Disney’s premiere of Dead Man’s Chest.
In 2007 she moved to San Diego for love and 2 years later gave birth to twin girls. Starting a family motivated her to begin attending MiraCosta College where she completed a 3-year intensive study program of web design & development and graphic design with a focus on output for print and publishing. The last class she took was the Adobe Illustrator program. You could say it was love at first click. Since then she has exclusively used the program and published 3 coloring books and an extensive greeting card line based on them.
In 2020 Skye took advantage of being at home during the lockdown and quickly got to work creating 15 new art pieces for a gallery show in March of 2021. This extra time allowed her to also start on a new path as a digital NFT artist. Her limited edition art pieces are printed on museum-quality acrylic glass, sold online, and in galleries throughout California.
